Brief
Our brief was to develop and implement an ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System (EMS) for each of the three companies that make up the Omex Group of Companies at the various sites that they operate from.
Omex
The three companies are Omex Agrifluids Ltd, Omex Agriculture Ltd and Omex Environmental Ltd based at sites in Kings Lynn in Norfolk and Bardney in Lincolnshire. Whilst all three companies are involved in plant health and nutrition, they each have very different operations and objectives. Whilst Omex Agrifluids Ltd produces plant nutrients and fertilisers solely for export, Omex Agriculture Ltd produces liquid fertilisers and solutions for UK farmers delivered in bulk tankers. Omex Environmental Ltd produces plant nutrients, and chemicals for amongst other things, wastewater treatment plants and de-icing.
The Challenge
Our first objective was to implement and ISO 14001 EMS for Omex Agrifluids Ltd. This was because there was a very urgent customer and regulatory demand to see the Company certificated, and also with the site being self-contained, it would be the most straight forward of the three implementations.
Following the successful certification for Agrifluids, the decision was taken to concentrate on the Bardney site for Omex Agriculture Ltd due to redevelopment work at the Company’s Kings Lynn site, although Omex Environmental Ltd is still operational on both sites and therefore would be assessed on both sites at the same time as Agriculture.
The Solution
Working closely with the Health, Safety, Security, Environmental & Quality Team, a single EMS was designed to cover the three companies. This was implemented using Sharepoint, which provided the tools and resources to allow joint access to the system, but with the ability to provide separate sections for each individual company. Ultimately this worked extremely well with document control being provided by the Sharepoint system.
Additional advantages lay in the development of extremely effective trackers for Objectives & Planning, Audit and Non Conformance. This, coupled with the tools and systems that Little Green Consulting Ltd have developed allowed for a successful outcome in the implementations across all three companies and all three sites.
